A cast lead early medieval spindle whorl of Walton Rogers type A1 dating c.AD 800-1100.
Description: The object is domed (beehive shaped) with a central circular aperture measuring 7mm at the top then tapering to 9mm where it emerges on the flat side. The flat side is plain, though has traces of a raised rim around the outer edge. The whorl is patinated an off-white.
Measurements: 24mm in diameter (at widest point) 15mm high and 51.31g in weight.

A cast lead alloy Early Medieval spindle whorl. It is D-shaped in cross-section (plano-convex) with a tapered central moulded aperture of 9.5mm - 10.2mm diameter. The form is that of Walton Rogers AI and are dated by Walton Rogers to AD 500 - 1000, however it could also be dated to medieval. The object has a pale beige/white patina.

It is 32.9mm in diameter, 8.1mm thick, weighs 46.25gms.

It is circular in plan, and cast in the form of a shallow dome with one face flat, it has a straight sided central circular aperture which is 8.0mm in diameter. The whorl is undecorated, although it has some concentric marks on the flat face probably caused by shrinkage during casting, and thickly covered in white patination. The mean diameter is 34.0mm, thickness is 8.1mm, and it weighs 43.6g.

A complete stone spindle whorl or gaming piece, dating to the early medieval period c.AD 600-800. The circular whorl is bi-convex in profile and flat at the base. 35.07 mm in diameter, 15.21 mm thick and with a circular central perforation that is 8.55 mm in diameter and weighs 22.45g. The smooth upper surface is decorated with one sub-circular incised ring around the central perforation,although this is a little crude. The underside is undecorated and is smooth in appearance but has a slight grove across the middle of the whorl. The surface takes a brown colour.

A late Early Medieval to early Medieval Lead spindle whorl, dating to AD 900 - 1100. The spindle whorl is circular in plan with a circular perforated hole in the centre. One face has a midpoint groove around the circumference, possibly caused by shrinkage during casting, and there is an old dent at one side. The item is completely covered in creamy-white patination.

A complete cast lead spindle whorl of probable early medieval date, (c. AD 500 - 1000).
Description: Suggested to be of Walton Rogers form A1 with one flat face and one rounded face, it is 27.16mm in diameter and 10.2mm thick, with a central circular perforation 6.11mm in diameter. It weighs 51.26g. There are some undulations and highlights on its outer surface which suggests it may have been decorated, but this is unclear. It has a sandy light brown and grey patina .

There is recent damage to the flat face, where it was hit by a spade during extraction......
