A lead alloy spindle whorl or weight. It is flat on both faces, with rounded edges, D shaped in section. There is no apparent decoration. The central perforation is approximately 10mm in diameter. A number of similar examples have been recorded by the Berkshire FLO, one of which is BERK-4D6A2C. These are difficult to date without other evidence, and are considered by some to be Roman when in this form, this artefact is from an area of known Roman activity Dimensions: It is 28mm in diameter and 7mm thick, the central hole is 10mm diameter and it weighs 29.28g

A complete cast lead -alloy spindle whorl or weight, of unknown date. This is plano-convex in shape, with a moulded circular aperture slightly off-centre measuring c. 7.20mm in diameter.  The surface of the spindle whorl is covered entirely in a matte dark grey patina, with white specks especially on the flat bottom. The whorl has a maximum diameter of 28.37mm and of height 11.78mm and weighs 44.91 grams. The shape conforms to Walton Rogers form A1. A complete probable Roman lead-alloy spindle whorl dating to circa AD 43-41. It is discoidal in plan and plano-convex in section with broadly straight edges. The faces are undecorated. The central perforation is is small, 6mm in diameter, indicative of a pre-Early Medieval date. Consequently, a broad Roman date is suggested.

Roman to Medieval (1st to 15th centuries) spindlw whorl. A cast lead or lead alloy spindle whorl which is circular in plan and in profile is  bi-convex. There is a central circular perforation which is 11.04mm in diameter. The surface of the spindle whorl is decorated with chevrons radiating from the centre on both sides. The whorl has a raised outer edge radiating around its cirumference. The surface is oxidised and is a light grey colour. It measures 28.33mm in diameter, 8.24mm thick, and weighs 20.15g.

A complete, lead weight or spindle whorl of Roman to post medieval date (c. AD 43 - 1700). It is circular in plan, rectangular in cross section and has a flat surface on one side, while the other is slightly rounded. There is a circular shaped hole through the centre of the object. It is an off white colour with grey inclusions.  Diameter 26.4 mm, thickness 10.2 mm and weight 38.9 g.

A complete Roman to Post Medieval cast lead-alloy spindle whorl, of Walton Rogers type A1. The spindle whorl is broadly hemispherical (or biconical) with rounded sides and a flat underside. A circular perforation extends trough the centre from top to base. None of the surfaces are decorated. The patina is an even yellowish-grey colour. The spindle whorl is 16mm height, approximately 25mm external diameter, 10mm internal diameter and weighs 61.21 grams. See Walton Rogers 1997, p. 1738, fig. 806, no. 6541 for similar.
