A possible Early Medieval lead spindle whorl dating from AD 850 - 1100. It is unusually large, conical in form, with angled sides and flat surfaces but rounded corners, probably of Walton Rogers form A2. It is slightly damaged and distorted. The whorl is undecorated and has a light tan patina. The central hole is 11mm diameter. Length: 29.13mm Width: 25.04mm Thickness: 19.69mm Weight: 69.37g Form A2 whorls are dated by Walton Rogers to AD 700 - 1100. Those with a central perforation of greater than 9mm are more likely to be late Saxon onwards.

A lead alloy artefact which may be a part formed spindle whorl or gaming piece. It is circular with a central hole. One side is flat with a central depression running around it, leaving the inner and outer edges raised. The other side has three 'globules' raised above the base, leaving one flat area, the globules and flat part all covering approximately a quarter of the diameter. It has an even brown patina. While the shape and central hole are characteristics of spindle whorls, they are also found on Viking lead alloy turreted gaming pieces. As it is a miscast p…

A lead alloy weight, or possible spindle whorl or gaming piece. It is circular in form with a central hole of 9mm diameter. It is flat on both sides. Such weights were possibly net weights and are dated in the database to AD 1200-1800, for example NARC-DE4CD1, although they have been found on much earlier sites, such as the Viking camp at Torksey, Lincolnshire (Hadley and Richards 2016, Fig 1) Dimensions: It is 28mm in diameter and 6mm thick, the central hole is 9mm diameter. It weighs 33.96g

A possible lead alloy weight, or spindle whorl or gaming piece. It is hemispherical in shape with a flat base and a rounded top. It has a central, horizontal hole of diameter of 7mm. There is no design apparent, although there is some miscasting on the top with small folds in the material. Such items are difficult to date closely, they have though been found at the Viking camp of Torksey, Lincolnshire (Hadley and Richards, 2016, Fig.1). Dimensions: It is 12mm high and 31mm diameter, the central hole is 7mm diameter. It weighs 54.33g

A lead alloy spindle whorl or weight. It is a truncated cone in shape, with smooth, slightly bowed in sides. The central hole is 7mm in diameter, and this may indicate that it is an early artefact. The hole curves out on the underside of the body and so gives the illusion of being a bigger diameter on the base, although it isn't.  It has an even white patina. It is paralleled on the database by LIN-7BE15A and LANCUM-51DBD8, amongst others, which are dated to AD 700-1000 Dimensions: 18mm diameter and 12mm high, the central hole is 7mm diameter and it weighs 13.13g
