Cast lead spindle whorl, circular in plan and truncated conical in profile and section. There are faint traces of radiating linear decoration on the upper surface. There is a slightly off-centre circular hole, 6.7mm in diameter. The spindle whorl is 25.9mm in diameter and 7.5mm thick, and weighs 22.5g.

A grey, stone spindle-whorl decorated with incised lines radiating from the central hole (for the wooden spindle). It's condition is worn and one or 2 pieces have flaked away from the surface. Its overall diameter is 46mm, and the central hole is 10mm. Difficult to date, spindle-whorls having been used from prehistory up into the post-medieval period.

As ever, always difficult to be precise on date with no other evidence, thus it is possible that the date range may go back to the Roman. A lead bi-conical spindle whorl of probable medieval to post medieval origin. The whorl is poorly cast with no decoration and just about qualifies for the bi-conical form but the intent is clear. The central hole is 11.65mm and the surface is now pitted and marked and covered with the typical pale cream patina further discoloured by the reddish soil adhered to the surface.

A small lead alloy bi-conical decorated spindle whorl of indeterminate date. The whorl was found in an area where medieval and post medieval coins have been found and thus we may perhaps assume that date range for this whorl. Each side of the whorl is decorated with random angular lines forming triangles and chevrons. The central hole has a diameter of 9.5mm. The surface has the typical pale cream/grey lead oxide patina.

A lead alloy cast bi-conical medieval to post medieval decorated spindle whorl. Always difficult to date, this whorl came from an area that has produced artefacts from the noted period although an earlier date cannot be ruled out. This whorl has a typical zigzag to one surface and simple radial/parallel lines to the other. The central hole is 10.5mm in diameter and the surface has the typical cream/grey lead oxide patina.

A small cast lead alloy bi-conical spindle whorl of indeterminate date. The whorl is roughly cast with what might be the remnants of the casting sprue still in place. The surface appears to have been cast with a zigzag decorative feature and it is now encrusted by a pale cream lead oxide. The central hole has a diameter of 8.95mm. As the find area has only thrown up other coins/artefacts of a medieval to post medieval date, this whorl may be from that same period.

A lead alloy medieval to post medieval spindle whorl with an attached outer plain ring. The ring is attached to the core of the body by four lugs or stays. It is perhaps a deliberate design feature, to extend the mass with a smaller amount of lead? The ring is now crushed into the central boss, which has a vague bi-conical section which is decorated with four distinct joined arches on both sides. The central hole is 10.34mm in diameter and the surface has a grey/cream lead oxidised patina.
