Miniature axe or axe-chisel of Bronze age to Roman date (2150 BC- 410 AD). The object is similar to solid flat axes with a tapering blade, resembling a miniature version of the earliest and simplest solid cast copper alloy axe-heads. The sides are slightly curved and the blades tappers to a rounded edge. The object is broken along the wider edge. The object has a heavily pitted light green patina. The broad date range has been given due to the form of the object most closely resembling early Bronze age axe heads, however there are numerous examples of Roman votive deposition of …

A copper alloy axe head, possibly a Roman Votive object, AD.43-400. The axe head is a truncated triangle with a broad curved cutting edge. The butt of the axe shows some signs of an old worn break and may originally have had a sybolic haft and butt as in NMS-B80741. It is similar in shape to YORYM-F02231, a probable Roman find based on Bronze Age designs. Axes are common as votives in the Roman period and are discussed in Green (1975) Archaeological Journal. 132, fig.2, nos.7 and 20.

Small cast copper alloy piece of unclear function. It is piriform in plan (with a semicircular end and two straight sides with converge to a point at the opposite end) and roughly rectangular in section. There is a circular hole drilled part way through from the top. It is 20.6mm long, 9.2mm wide and 9.5mm thick, it weighs 8.38. It has a resemblence to an axe with a hole for seperate handle but this may be co-incidence as it is slightly irregular and much simpler in form than the small votive axes commonly found on Roman sites.
