An incomplete copper alloy brooch still retaining its pin dating from the early to middle Iron Age (800 -500 BC). The brooch consists of a central bow 10.86mm wide and 2.18mm thick. At each end of the central bow the brooch ends in a set of 3 circles, in a trefoil pattern, each one 9.32mm across, with the bottom of two of the circles level with the end of the central bow thus forming the base. Each circle has a smaller circle set within it. Each of these inner circles measures 3.78mm across. The centre of the inner circle, and the area between the inner and outer circles is recessed. …

This is trefoil in shape comprising three axe-shapes flaring out from the centre, the outer one ajoining the tops of each side producing a circular perforation at each corner. Incomplete and abraded Early Saxon copper alloy Small-long brooch with most of the footplate and of the catchplate missing. Decorative detail is largely obscured by wear but a groove defines the springing of each foil. The hollow-backed bow tapers down from one rectangular panel forming facets to another, below which the stump of the footplate carries one transverse groove. On the reverse there is an incomplete rust-stained single pin lug and and the upper end of the catchplate. Extant length 40mm. Width 25.5mm. Weight 8.99g. c.475 - c.525 AD.
