An incomplete copper alloy enamelled vessel of Roman date, c.AD43-150. Eight fragments including a handle, base, and six body pieces were found. A further two copper alloy fragments, also possible body pieces, were found in close proximity though are undecorated and cannot be definitively linked to the patera. The opposite end of the handle flares again into two wide, integral semi-circular arms which would have joined to t…

Early Saxon copper alloy Small-long brooch of Leeds 1945, Trefoil-headed type. The head is decorated with punched crescentic impressions around the edge of each foil and in three straight lines at the centre as a pseudo panel. An incomplete Roman copper alloy brooch, dating from the late 1st-2nd century AD. Much of the brooch survives with only part of the pin missing. At the head, there are three coils of the spring on either side of the central lug. There is a ridge running down the centre of the bow with a groove in the middle. Fragment of a medieval framed brooch of uncertain form with none of the frame present, apart from a collet and a large flat plate. A collet, round internally, ovoid externally and containing white fixative lies next to a break on one side and a three-quarter-round plate on the other. This is pierced in the centre by a rivet hole with the remains of a rivet and there is another break opposite the junction with the collet. The curving inner edge of the collet and projection suggests an inner diameter of c.20mm. It is likely that the complete object might be reconstructed as an open tref…

A Roman copper-alloy plate brooch. The brooch takes the form of a trefoil, its upper surface occupied by a cluster of three circular cells, all of the same size. These cells have damaged rims and are largely empty, but one has adhering traces of a black substance, possibly enamel. All three cells have a circular depression at their centre, surrounded by a series of concentric grooves and ridges which suggest that either the brooch or the former was turned on a lathe. Additionally, the outer ring of each cell bears lightly incised zigzag grooves, which may represent 'keying' for the…
