An damaged and incomplete Medieval silver halfgroat issued in the reign of an Edwardian monarch. The coin is broken approximately in half; the alignment and jagged nature of the break suggests that this is damage rather than a deliberate cut to change the denomination. The initial mark and the recognition of the first letter in the obverse legend as an "E" suggests that the coin is most probably a halfgroat from the reign of Edward III (1327-1377 AD). Since halfgroats were not issued until the fourth coinage the date can be narrowed to 1351-1377 AD.
