A small cast copper-alloy Roman T-shaped (Possibly Polden Hill) brooch, incomplete, only the head and the upper portion of the bow surviving. None of the spring remains. Hattatt (1982) suggests a date range of the second hanf of the first century AD (50-100). The surviving portion has no elaborate decoration, beyond a single raised spine down the centre of the outer bow.

Robertson 2000, 137 no. 605: ""In 1820, a mole-catcher, working in Brereton, at a short distance from the farm mentioned, and that of about four miles (direct) from the Kinderton Station, at a point where a small brook is crossed by the footpath from Brereton to Sandbach, struck his paddle against something resembling a mass of fused metal, contained in a decayed box, but afterwards found to consist of about a thousand Roman Coins, bound together by verdigris and rust. Nearly six hundred of them are in my possession, which are partly broken and corroded, and partly good specimens o…

Object type: POLISHED AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Greenstone polished axe, reworked into waisted form. Polished Group 6 axehead fragment comprising a crescentic cutting edge and c.30mm of the original sides of the axe meeting its ends. Beyond this point, pecking has transformed a probable originally oval form of lentoid section by forming a marked waist or in-swing. This might have facilitated a tied fastening, though its security was perhaps compromised by loss or damage to the butt end, which is probably truncated and certainly fractured. The waisted form recurs on a polished axe dated to between the Later Neolithic and Early Bronz…
