A thirty pence coin issued in May AD 1690 by James II to finance his abortive campaigns against William III; this type of coin is widely known as 'gun money' because of its base metal (copper alloy) composition. Obverse:- Portrait of James II facing left, beaded border at rim. Legend around 'IACOBVS II DEI GRATIA'. Reverse:- A crown and crossed sceptres, the denomination 'XXX' and date '1690' above. Ornate J and R to either side, month 'May' below. Legend around '[MAG] BR FRA ET HIB REX'.

A silver long cross penny of Edward I - Edward III. The coin has been pierced in one quarter below the legend possibly for use as a pendant; however this cannot be ascertained with certainty. The silver medieval coin has been pierced, indicating a secondary function which would normally indicate that it should be considered as potential Treasure. However, since coins of this period with similar piercings appear in hoards of currency, it suggests that such objects could re-enter circulation as coins. A silver penny probably of Edward IV, (1461-1470), of the York ecclesiastical mint. The bust style suggests Edward III as there is no hollow neck but objects either side of the bust appear to be a T and a key which would indicate Edward IV. The coin is too worn for accurate ID and can be dated AD 1351-77 or AD 1471-83.
