Object type: POLISHED AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published
Greenstone polished axe, reworked into waisted form. Polished Group 6 axehead fragment comprising a crescentic cutting edge and c.30mm of the original sides of the axe meeting its ends. Beyond this point, pecking has transformed a probable originally oval form of lentoid section by forming a marked waist or in-swing. This might have facilitated a tied fastening, though its security was perhaps compromised by loss or damage to the butt end, which is probably truncated and certainly fractured. The waisted form recurs on a polished axe dated to between the Later Neolithic and Early Bronz…

A silver long cross penny of Edward I - Edward III.
The coin has been pierced in one quarter below the legend possibly for use as a pendant; however this cannot be ascertained with certainty.
The silver medieval coin has been pierced, indicating a secondary function which would normally indicate that it should be considered as potential Treasure. However, since coins of this period with similar piercings appear in hoards of currency, it suggests that such objects could re-enter circulation as coins. It therefore cannot be said with confidence whether this particular object was r…

A lead alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object has an oval bowl or bag like base and is D-shaped in cross-section. The object is flattned at the back with several scratches and nicks on the surface. It tapers towards the top where it terminates with an oval opening or neck. The object has a mid-brown patina.
It was suggested due to a similar form that the object could be an ampulla however the lack of decoration, handles and the shape of the 'bowl' make this unlikely. Another possibility based on the angle of the object is a lead alloy covering for a foot of a large…

A silver penny probably of Edward IV, (1461-1470), of the York ecclesiastical mint.
The bust style suggests Edward III as there is no hollow neck but objects either side of the bust appear to be a T and a key which would indicate Edward IV. The coin is too worn for accurate ID and can be dated AD 1351-77 or AD 1471-83.
