A small, worn and possibly cut object, perhaps a coin, of uncertain date. The metal is silver/grey in colour, although the wear and some encrustation make it difficult to ascertain precisely what the metal is and it could well be a more recent alloy. The original object has worn or been clipped/cut to leave a small flan that is approximately circular in shape. One face has traces of decoration that comprises part of a legend reading []VM[] with a line below. The style of the lettering is similar to Iron Age or Roman coinage, however it may equally be of much later Medieval to Post-Medi…

Age uncertain. Probably Iron Age/Roman, copper alloy, cast, medium size, probable suspension belt loop or possible horse harness ring. Length 21.6mm, Width 21.6mm, Thickness 4.2mm, Diameter 21.6mm, Weight 4.9g. This ring is relatively thick with a circular cross-section which could indicate being of some age and found in association with Iron Age and Roman coins and artefacts that also have this rusty brown appearance and surface corrosion. A sub circular silvered copper alloy object, of possible Roman dating (1 to 410 AD). It is sub circular in plan, and D shaped in section. The top surface is smooth and domed, with a couple of uneven projections. The lower surface is flat. It measures 20.45mm in length, 21.34mm wide and 6.27mm thick. It weighs 13.1grams. The object could be a piece of casting waste, but there are traces of silvering on a couple of areas on both surfaces. The patina is similar to that found on early Roman coins, but this object is too thick to be a coin.

A complete but heavily worn, cast copper alloy probable coin weight of uncertain denomination and dating. The coin weight is circular in plan, and rectangular in cross section. One side appears to have a standing figure holding left arm up and the other, possibly a Roman style standard. The coin weight is a mid to dark green colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement in the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of surface detail. It measures 12.00mm in diameter and 2.57mm thick. It weighs 1.7 grams.

Cast copper alloy artefact or unknown date and function. It is likely that this artefact dates from the Roman period (and was found in association with a group of coins dating to the late Roman period 250-410 AD). The artefact is cast in one piece and is in the shape of a broad circular disc with two small rounded lug shaped knops which extend from opposite edges. The disc itself is relatively flat and sub-rectangular in cross section. The two knops are lentoid (sub-oval) in cross section and circular in profile. The upper face of the disc has been decorated with a series of cast radia…

Copper-alloy disc, possibly a coin. Diameter 18.01mm, thickness 1.05mm, weight 1.31g. Both surfaces of the artefact are extremely worn and although some of the slight bumps on the surface may well be the remains of the original surface detail, it has not been possible to identify the item further. Possibly Roman in date but impossible to determine.

A lead weight, or possible gaming piece of unknown date. It is conical with a roughly circular base 11.9mm in diameter, and is 9.06mm in height. It weighs 5.51g. The object resembles gaming pieces of the Viking period, although unlike this one, these are usually domed and can be hollow. Roman coin weights can be a similar shape, being conical and made of lead, but are generally much larger as with an example from Colchester (Crummy,1983, p.101,no.2510).

Ovan strip of lead with a circular impression. The impression apperas to be of a feline/wolf looking upwards. The faint lettering to the left appears to be AVG. AVG would suggest a Roman coin. However, the characters are in relief, meaning that the impression is unlikely to be of a coin. The impression is 15mm in diameter.
