An incomplete copper-alloy coffee bean or "vulvate" mount of Roman date, c.AD 150 - 300. The mount comprises an ovate plate, the edges of which are broken and worn, with a raised, central oval boss, decorated with a deep median groove. The reverse of the mount is concave behind the boss. Two incomplete circular-sectioned lugs are present to either end of the reverse of the plate. The metal has a mid-green delaminated patina and is worn. A cast copper alloy fragment probably from a Roman dolphin type military buckle frame. Only the head of one of the beast survives. The head is D-shpaed in cross section (flat back, slightly domed reverse) and shaped in the form of an animal's head with an open mount snout and plume above the head. The eye is detailed by a small incised dot, while the plum has a series of diagonal incised lines running across it. The fragment is a medium green colour. A late Roman cast copper alloy buckle of Hawkes and Dunning (1961) Type 1b, consisting of a D-shaped frame, with moulded and incised symmetrical zoomorphic decoration. The arms of the frame are decorated to depict a pair of confronted dolphins, with incised line and punched dot detail and with mouths joined into a pointed pin rest. The crests of the dolphins are developed into a pair addorsed horse heads expanding outwards from the outer edge of the frame. The reverse of the buckle is undecorated. Circa late 3rd - late 4th century AD.

The shape is similar to horse-head buckles, although the outward-facing animal heads do not resemble horses, but look rather like ducks since they have large, bill-like beaks and no obvious ears. The outer edge appears to represent two beasts facing away from each other. The object is very worn and little detai remains. The object has a light green patina. Comparable examples depicting horses can be seen in Leahy and Lewis (2018: 153). The overall dimensions are as follows: 39.90mm in length, 30.69mm in width, 5.15mm in thickness and 15.78g in weight.
