A hoard of three items dating to the Taunton phase (c.1400-1275 BC) of the Middle Bronze Age and found buried together:
A complete cast bronze rapier, 535mm in total length, with a solid copper alloy hilt which has been modelled in imitation of a wooden one. The rapier has been broken into three pieces. The tapering blade is 60mm wide at the handle and a maximum of 7.5mm thick with a "triple arris" shaped cross-section throughout its length. Middle Saxon gilt sword pommel with convex basal edge and animal-head terminals, both with inlaid dark glass pellet eyes (one missing), and connected by a low median rib. Both faces are covered with similar arrangements of (rather worn) interlaced animal ornament in low relief. This consists of two forelegs to accompany both heads and curving snake-like bodies, which for most of their lengths are decorated with niello and silver dots. Two other interlaced animals taking up the area around the upper aperture are in more abraded condition.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object of uncertain function and date, probably a Medival dagger or knife pommel.. The base is a solid flattened sphere, the outer surface of which is more convex than the inner surface. Projecting from the centre of the inner surface is a circular-sectioned shaft (9.3mm diameter) that is broken at the end. Parallel to this on one edge is a rectangular-sectioned shaft (6.5mm wide, 2.8mm thick) that tapers slightly to an outwardly turned round terminal. Both shafts are integral. All the surfaces are plain, worn and have a mid green patina.

An incomplete Medieval copper alloy openwork staff terminal cast in a single piece, of early medieval or Norman date AD 1000 - 1200. The staff terminal is sub spherical with an openwork socket at one end. The head of the staff is decorated with a cast pierced pattern of lattice like openwork lozenges ornamented with projecting knop like bosses or pellets. At the apex is a cross in a circle. A complete copper-alloy terminal, 'end-cap' or pommel from a knife of Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1650).
This terminal is likely to have come from an iron scale tang knife. It starts at a rectangular base and then forms into two parallel curved arms, which then connect by a small bar at the top of the terminal. The shape of the object is very similar to a lyre. A copper alloy pommel of 'cocked hat' type, dating to the Early medieval period, c. AD 500-700.
The pommel is triangular in shape with slightly concave sides, with a rounded top point, and pointed flat ends. The open end is rectangular in shape. The inside of the pommel is hollow. There is damage to one of the edges of the pommel, and it is worn. There is no visible decoration. It has a light green brown patina, and measures 33.9mm in length, 13.6mm in width, 12.2mm in height, and weighs 2.33g.
Similar to Macgregor and Bolick 1993, page 238, number 46.3.

A copper alloy possible sword pommel, dating from the post medieval period, c. AD 1500-1650.
The pommel is circular, with on side flattened to a circular panel. There is a circular indentation in the centre. The pommel is hollow. At one end there is a circular perforation, at the other a square perforation. The pommel has a light green patina with red brown patches. It measures 20.3mm by 15.4mm, and weighs 4.86g.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy sword pommel (Oakeshot Type J) of medieval date, c. AD 1300-1400. The fragment is rounded, with a raised ridge running across the centre. In the centre of this is a rectangular perforation. Either side it is slightly rounded, and concave, the edges are worn and broken. On the inside on the pommel there is red brown iron staining. The pommel has a mid green patina. It measures 52.3mm in length, 40.1mm in width, 2.7mm in thickness, and weighs 29.89g.

The pommel is comprised of five splayed lobes which ascend in height from either side towards a central larger and taller lobe, creating a symmetrical effect. A complete cast hollow copper-alloy dagger pommel probably dating to the Post Medieval period, about AD 1500 - 1800. The pommel is spheroid and hollow. At one face is a square-shaped perforation for the tang, which is 9.2mm in length. Opposite it is a perforation which is is sub-square in shape with a length of 6.5mm. The object is in fair condition and bits of a light green patina have survived within the brown patina. One side of the pommel has been subject to damage and has a small flat area.

A cast copper alloy dagger pommel of likely late or post-medieval date (1400-1700). The pommel is a rounded sub-trapizoidal in shape and hollow. The socket is oval (9.86mm) from which the sides flare out before rounding with a smaller hole (4.77mm) at the opposite end. On each side there is a central groove from which two other grooves eminate from the socket either side, giving a feather effect. Similar to Oakeshott type T.

Possibly a pommel for the butt end of a knife handle. Due to its patina, it appears to be a post-Medieval example. It is copper-alloy, but appears to be more zinc-rich than other copper-alloyed objects on the database. It has a light grey-green patina.
