Worn and pierced silver Post Medieval halfgroat of Charles II. The coin is pierced above the bust on the obverse from which it may have been suspended. However, the Maundy ceremony was introduced in 1662 by Charles II in which, amongst other coins, twopences were issued, hence the coin could also be a pierced Maundy piece. Such 'touch-pieces' were believed to ward off scrofula, a disease also known as the Kings evil. Circa AD1660-1663.
Diameter: 21.0mm. Weight: 0.89g.

Silver coin, kindly identified by the finder as a threepenny piece. The size might suggest an issue of George III (1760-1820) or later, from the 1817 threepence issued as Maundy Money (Spink 2017 page 437, no. 3794) onwards. All detail is lost from both sides. A drilled hole of diameter 2.7mm appears close to the edge, so conversion to serve as a pendant may be posited. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1817-1887.
