An incomplete cast copper-alloy stirrup terminal of late Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon/Anglo-Scandinavian) date. The terminal has a hollow back that is semi-cylindrical in form and missing part of its attachment end due to old breaks. This contains traces of a white substance, probably used to solder the terminal to the now missing stirrup and is closed at the base. Description: The mount is sub-triangular in plan with a zoomorphic head terminal at the apex. The decoration consists of a series of looping and bifurcating tendrils which end in lobes. The flange is not intact and is the piece that is missing. A minimal amount of iron corrosion is present on the reverse apex loop from the rivets. The object has a light red-brown patina. Measurements: length: 44.53mm, width: 30.81mm, thickness: 4.49mm, weight: 15.77g.

This curves slightly to the rear, has a longitudinal ridge down the centre of the outer face and a trefoil hole to either side of this. From one edge of the stirrup is a downward pointing row of crenulated transverse ridges. An incomplete copper-alloy cast stirrup or 14th century date. It is trapezium-shaped and has a complete integral expanded front plate, trapezoid in shape, measuring 47.54mm in width and 29.01mm in length. This plate has transverse mouldings and a rectangular panel which is decorated with incised zigzags which form borders and oval shaped motifs. This integral plate covers the suspension loop which is rectangular in shape and projects from its back face. Upper part of bronze stirrup. The suspension loop that held the strap is broken. The front part of the loop is partly covered by a plate. The arms of the stirrup are moulded into a barley-twist pattern on the front face.
