An incomplete copper-alloy Roman centre looped cosmetic pestle. It is formed from a long curved rod, circular in cross-section and becoming narrower towards each end, which terminates in a blunt point, one of which terminates in an old break.  Projecting from the centre of the upper edge is a flattened sub-circular loop, which is circular in cross-section. A complete cast copper-alloy end-looped cosmetic pestle dating to the late Iron Age or early Roman period, c. 1-200 AD.  It consists of a crescentic sub-circular sectioned rod with one end pointed and the other demonstrating an integrally cast end-loop. It is plain with no decorative elements. It measures 44.79mm in length, 3.64mm in width and 3.97g in weight.  Similar examples can be found on the PAS database (SF-A3D5C7, SF-B6A85B SF-FADE94).

The pestle is a curved rod of plano-convex section and with a small integral loop on the back close to one of the terminals.
