An extremely corroded copper alloy object with a cylindrical terminal (4.9mm diameter) at one end of a constriction to an ovoid lobe which tapers to a bend and a point, probably an old break. The original surface is almost entirely lost and no decoration can be made out. Possibly a terminal from a hair pin of Roman date.

A cast copper-alloy miniature hammer of uncertain date, probably dating to either the Post Medieval or early Modern period, about AD 1500 - 1900.
In plan, the complete miniature hammer is broadly ‘T-shape’. It consists of a long handle perforated by a circular hole at one end. An incomplete late Roman to Early Medieval copper alloy pin, dating to AD 300-500. The pin head is biconvex with a central ridge running around the circumference of the head, creating two halves. The top half narrows to a rounded point in the centre of the head, and is conical in shape. The lower half extends downwards in a conical shape, and narrows to the integral shaft. This has a raised collar, and is sub circular in shape. The pin is very worn, and is a light red brown colour. It meaures 20.1mm in length, 10.8mm by 10.1mm across the head, and weighs 3.99g.

A copper alloy Roman hair-pin. It fits within Cool's Group 10 of knob headed pins. The heard is conical. The shank is circular in section, and thickened in its centre. The tip of the pin bent. It measures 60.2mm in length. The head is 6.2mm in diameter, and the pin weighs 4.45g. Cool, 1990, p.160, fig.7, no.1. This group would have been in use by c.AD 125 onwards.

The head of the pin is bi-conical with a narrow median band and sub-conical upper and lower hemispheres with no decoration evident. A small circumferential collar is present below the head. A circular-sectioned shaft extends from the collar, terminating in a worn break.
The metal has a green patina and is worn. The pin is 17.29mm long, 7.25mm in diameter at the head, 1.53mm in diameter at the shaft, and weighs 1.31g.

The object is a Crummy Type 2 and is a hair pin composed of cylindrical apex with flat top that is waisted and followed by a further cylindrical section. Below this is a bulbous collar, below which tapers into the remaining portion of the circular sectioned shaft. The shaft terminates in an old and abraded break.
The metal is a green in colour with a slightly pitted patina.

A complete Iron Age copper alloy ring-headed hair pin of the ‘swan neck type’, dating circa 550 BC to 50 BC.
The head is composed of an annular loop, D-shaped in cross section, which has been rolled forward to create a closed loop. There are 16 transverse grooves on the outer edge of the loop, the inner part of the ring is smooth.
Below the loop, the pin's shaft is bent in the form of a U-shape which is sub-rectangular in cross section, creating the swan neck. The pin shaft is circular in cross-section tapering to the tip, which has been bent.

A cast copper-alloy Roman hairpin dating to c.AD 100-200.
The pin has a flattened spherical head decorated with three grooves at the apex, forming a loose trianglular motif. The shaft is decorated with two circumferiential bands immediately below the pin head, followed by a space and three further bands, the remaining tapering shaft is undecorated and appears complete. The pin is bent below the three decorative bands, almost at 90 degrees, probably as the result of plough damage.

A fragment of a bone hair pin, pin or needle of probable Roman date comprising a portion of the shaft and the pointed tip. The surface is a dark brown colour with oblique striations. The object is sub-circular in cross section and the point is conical. Measurements are; length 49.3mm, diameter at the widest point 2.3mm and weight 0.36g. This is narrower than the maximum diameter given for most Roman pins and hair pins on the PAS database, but this may be because the head is missing. Similar bone hair pins have been recorded on the database including SUR-6AA775 and LON-10EEF7.
