Complete copper alloy hair pin of early medieval date (c. AD 700-900). A faceted-cuboid head (polyhedral) with ring-and-dot motif on each face, and possible traces of white inlay within the decorative elements. The shaft is complete, bent at approximately 100 degrees approximately half way along its length, and tapers to a point. For a similar item please see LEIC-590907. Length (top of head to bend in shaft): 30.5mm. Width (bend in shaft to tapered end): 32.5mm. Head: width 6.6mm, depth 5.1mm, height 6.9mm.

An incomplete copper alloy Roman plate brooch in the form of a four-legged animal, possibly a deer or goat, c. AD 200-400. The front of the brooch is covered with vertical decoration made up of repeated crescents that mimics curled hair or wool and which covers the the forequarters, hindquarters, and what survives of the legs. Head or part of the head of a Roman copper alloy hairpin. At the top a globular moulding is surmounted by a nipple, and below this a waist lies above a rectangle of square cross-section with an engraved saltire on each face. A short length running to the non-recent break may be the uppermost part of the shank or may lie above another moulding, probably the former, cf. NMS-14E4CE. Extant length 17.5mm. Width of globular part 5.8mm of rectangular part 3.3mm. Mid 1st - 4th century.

Roman copper alloy hairpin with a slight mid-shank widening and a pointed head which is no wider than the shank and is divided into three by three pairs of encircling grooves. Cool 1990, Group 3 Sub-group A. The shank has been bent twice through c.45 degrees in two directions, immediately below the head, and c.25mm above the tip and c.10mm above an encircling rib. This last feature is very unusual, and is not a casting flaw but deliberately formed. Weight 4.0g. Length 92mm. Diameter 2 - 3mm. Mid 1st - 2nd century.

A fragment of a cast copper-alloy object possibly a pin of Roman date (c.AD250-400). Description: The pin remains as the polyhedral head and a small section of the sub-circular shank which is now bent at the base. The head of the pin has 14 facets, six of which are large and lozengiform, the remaining being comparatively small and triangular. There is no visible decoration on the facets. An incomplete copper-alloy, Roman hair pin probably of Cool Group 3, dating from AD 43 - 410. The head is a tapering finial knop terminal and below it is a double cordon, a baluster shaped element and a wider collar. The shank is circular in cross-section, 2.9mm diameter below the collar and tapering to 2.4mm at the break. The surfaces of the pin have mottled mid green and brown patination. It is 58.4mm long, 5.4mm maximum diameter and 3.2g.

An incomplete copper alloy Roman hair pin of group 6 type, dating from the late 1st to early 2nd century AD. The hair pin has a discoidal head, which narrows to the shank.There is raised collar below the head, then a groove, and then a slightly smaller raised collar, followed by a second groove. The shank is circular in cross section with a bend in it, narrowing slightly before a worn break. The pin is very worn, and has a dark brown patina. It measures 40.6mm in length, 4.1mm in maximum width, and weighs 3.32g. C.f. Cool 1991, page 157, Figure 5, number 3.
