An incomplete lead heraldic mount, probably of Post medieva to Modern date, AD 1800 - 1900. It is an incomplete crest of a creature, possibly an eagle, bounded by a torse (twisted roll of fabric) across the bottom. The beast's head is missing making identification difficult. It has curly hair or fur depicted on the left and possible scales or feathers on the right. It leans to the right and then curves back to the left, so may be an animal with an arched neck or be looking back over its shoulder, or may be a wing. On the reverse are three recesses for separate attachment pins,…

Copper alloy mount. Cast figurative mount with an integrally cast conical fixing pin of diameter 3.1mm and length 5.5mm projecting from behind; the back of this massy casting is lightly hollowed. The subject is the profile of an old man with bald forehead, with hair at the back of the head and extending from there to form a long and luxuriant beard, though perhaps without a moustache of similar character. A crumbly pale green material covers part of the back, and might be a relict fixative. The subject may be Silenus, an attendant of Bacchus. While the fixing method would normally com…

A gilded silver mount of early medieval date. It is roughly oval-shaped and the front depicts a human mask flanked by stylised birds' heads. Substantial gilding survives across the front surface, with areas missing or worn off on the mask's brow and nose, and the outer border above the brow. The mask appears to wear a hood or head-dress which covers the hair and runs below the chin. In the centre is a triangular stamped motif with a central 'trunk' and several 'branches' on each side. Traces of additional stamps are now obscured by wear and damage. The mask's eyes are pellets set w…

A small lozengiform silver mount with zoomorphic interlace decoration. The decoration is asymmetrical and comprises two overlapping dog-like beasts, in profile, with their heads at the midpoint of the long axis, facing in different directions. The beasts have spotted hides. The heads, necks and upper forelimbs are well-defined on each, but then the bodies taper to a narrow band before expanding into their more stylised hindquarters at either end of the lozenge.
