An incomplete Roman bone hair pin dating to c.  AD 50 - 250 (cf. Greep type A2.2 / Crummy type 2). The terminal has broken at a ridged collar, but was possibly conical (see LON-03A984, LON-77DEB3 and LON-68D0FE etc). The shaft has a circular cross section tapering to a triangular point.

An incomplete late Roman to Early Medieval copper alloy pin, dating to AD 300-500. The pin head is biconvex with a central ridge running around the circumference of the head, creating two halves. The top half narrows to a rounded point in the centre of the head, and is conical in shape. The lower half extends downwards in a conical shape, and narrows to the integral shaft. This has a raised collar, and is sub circular in shape. The pin is very worn, and is a light red brown colour. It meaures 20.1mm in length, 10.8mm by 10.1mm across the head, and weighs 3.99g.

A copper alloy Roman hair-pin. It fits within Cool's Group 10 of knob headed pins. The heard is conical.  The shank is circular in section,  and thickened in its centre. The tip of the pin bent. It measures 60.2mm in length. The head is 6.2mm in diameter, and the pin weighs 4.45g. Cool, 1990, p.160, fig.7, no.1. This group would have been in use by c.AD 125 onwards.

The terminal is in the shape of a lion, the lion is up on its four limbs, the front limbs are down on the ground. There are incised lines across the front limbs and around the neck depicting the mane. There is a collar around the neck. The head of the animal is worn, only one circular eye is visible. Fragment of a Roman copper-alloy hair pin. The undecorated object consists of a biconvex head, plus a short section (2.6mm) of shaft. There is no collar between the head and shaft, which terminates in an old break. Similar to NMS-C347D3 and NMS-6AC993. See Cool (1990, fig.1, no.3) Group 1. A.D. 43-410. Length 11.5mm, diameter 10.0mm, thickness of shank 4.2mm. Weight 3.25g.

An incomplete Roman-Medieval cast copper-alloy pin, c.AD 100-1500. This pin consists of a round-sectioned shank that tapers to a point and is bent over 90 degrees. The head of the pin head is has moulded decoration, consisting of a rectangular section with a rounded knop. Similar pins to this have an additional knop to finish the head, but these are missing here. The pin has a mottled dark green patina.
