A fragment of cast copper alloy hair or dress pin of Roman date (AD 43-410). This pin has a bi-conical head and a simply decorated, circular sectioned shaft. The remaining shaft is decorated with a series of evenly-spaced lines around the circumference of the shaft; the head is undecorated. There are traces of gilding at various points around the shaft. The break of the shaft is not modern and there is no collar between the pin head and the shaft, which suggests a Roman, rather than Early Medieval date.
