A seal matrix, with a conical handle – probably dating to the 14th century. The seal matrix was cast in copper alloy, and then the face was chip carved. The handle has six subtle facets and terminates with a trefoil shaped loop pierced by a small circular hole. The trefoil terminal is badly worn and the lobes of the trefoil have lost some of their definition. Below the loop there is a series of steps in the metal forming a waisted neck, there are two collars, one around the circumference of the loop the other in the centre of the waisted neck.
The face depicts an image of a stag …

A small fragment from a cast copper alloy seal matrix, dating to the 17th – 18th century.
All that survives is the top part of the handle and the terminal.
The terminal is flat and pierced by three holes - forming three loops. A fourth apex loop has broken off from the top of these three loops. The conical handle is flat and oval in cross-section.
The seal matrix is a dark reddish-brown colour, with a pitted rough surface.

A flat pointed oval seal matrix, cast in lead, with a very crude design applied to the concave face. There is a long, tapering handle on the back of the object. The design consists of eight crude pellets in a rough oval shape, around the edge of the face. The surface is mid whitish-grey and is worn. This artefact dates to the medieval period; and surely represents the bottom end of the seal matrix market.

A cast copper alloy circular seal matrix. It has a pierced semi-circular lug projecting from the back running from the edge to the centre and orientated in line with the start of the legend on the front. The front has a finely carved design of a man and a women facing each other with a branch between within a pellet border surrounded by the lengend. Their hairstyles are of the typical early 14th century style. The legend is incomplete, missing entirely in places and very damaged around the outer edge so the tops of the letters are missing, the only clear letters are: S(I:)ATE[...]L.[…

Medieval cast copper alloy pointed oval seal matrix. It is flat with a raised band running down the centre on the reverse with a semi-circular lug at one end drilled with a circular hole. The central design has Mary holding the Christ child in the upper register, a dividing line with curls at each end and a figure kneeling with hands raised in prayer below all within a pellet border. The inscription is *AV[E: M]ARIA : GRA: PLENA. D[OM: TE]CUM, a contraction of the start of the most popular prayer to Mary, a key part of the Rosary: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
