A complete cast copper-alloy and iron lock cover of possible medieval date (c.1100-1500). Description: The object consists of a lozenge shaped plate with a circular end, the back of which is the source of contiguous iron corrosion, probably due to the iron attachment which fixed to the door and which allowed the plate to rotate. The upper surface of the plate appears to be undecorated. The stem has two decreasing steps toward the bow. A bit with two alternating cleft and wards projects out at 90 degrees to the stem at the opposite end to the bow. The metal has a dark green patina and is in fair condition. The key is 27.5mm long, 9.8mm wide at the bit, the stem is 4.5mm in diameter, the bow is 13.3mm wide and 1.5mm thick. The key weighs 2.2g.

An incomplete, copper alloy Roman (AD 43-410) bell-shaped stud (possibly Allason-Jones type 2) or lock element. An incomplete, copper alloy, Medieval (AD 1100-1600) zoomorphic barrel padlock. The padlock is in the form of a horse wearing a saddle and harness. The horse is hollow throughout. The head of the horse is cylindrical and tapers towards the mouth, where there is a breakage. The eyes are possibly annulets, though, due to abrasion, the details are not clear. The object has a green coloured worn patina.  Similar examples were recovered from excavations in London which dated from between 1150 and 1400 (Egan 1998, 111-112, nos 294-298).
