A complete copper alloy medieval or post-medieval casket key. The shank is oval in cross-section. The bit is simple in form with a small rectangular notch removed from the centre of each longer side. The bow is circular and flattened with a circular hole through the centre.  Margeson (1993, 160-2, figs.118-120) illustrates a number of small, simple casket keys from Norwich, found in contexts dating from the 12th to 17th century. Such a simple key, which is lacking diagnostic details cannot be dated more closely. Length: 35.3mm, width: 14.6mm, thickness: 2.6mm, weight: 4.28g
