Record ID: YORYM-4AF738
Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of an unidentified copper alloy object, possibly a buckle or a mount. The fragment consists of a flat curved plate with a perforation at one end and a pointed forked end at the other. One of these forked projections has been broken off, the break itself is quite worn. The surface of the plate is decorated with what seems to be a leaf pattern with a central grooved line and symmetrical lines radiating out at an angle. The surface of the object is a mid brownish-green. No other parallels have been found of this object and so it is not possible to date this object.

A pair of copper-alloy sub-triangular plates of unknown purpose or date. The plates have two coincident perforations, one close to the centre and the other near to one point. It is possible that the object is a strap-end; however, it may have served a different purpose. There is no decoration on any surface, but traces of a black coating can be observed on two of the surfaces. This type of coating is often seen on dress accessories and is sometimes referred to as lacquer (Buckles 1250-1800, Whitehead, 2003. p8). The degree of corrosion is extensive and suggests that the item is of s…

Length 21.6mm, Width 21.6mm, Thickness 4.2mm, Diameter 21.6mm, Weight 4.9g. A copper alloy Unidentified object of uncertain date. All that survives is a broken trapezoidal plate of copper alloy. One face is decorated with incised lines about 3mm from the edge forming a border. The lines cross each other at the corners. There is another fainter line across the plate transversely, about 7mm from the border line. The other end of the plate is missing. and the breaks are worn. In the centre of the plate is an opening with rounded corners. The hole seems to be D shaped, but the missing end makes it impossible to be certain. This has similarities with some Roman bu…

Circular domed object made from gold, consisting of a circular back sheet, an incomplete filigree collar, and a domed upper sheet. The back sheet is 13.0mm in diameter and was probably originally flat; it is now very slightly concave, around a flat rim underneath the narrow flange running around the domed upper sheet. There are several small indentations, as if the back sheet has been poked repeatedly by a sharp point. There is one tiny circular hole close to the edge and, directly opposite and close to the edge, a tear perhaps through a second hole. The surviving hole is c. 0.6mm in …
