An incomplete copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative, hinged, brooch dating to c.AD 43-120. See Mackreth (2011) CD H 3.c, Plate 58.
The brooch consists of the head, wings and most of the bow; the foot, pin and catchplate are missing. It presents a curved bulbous head with a pair of cylindrical wings across the reverse. A single crescent moulding is present at either side of the head at the join of the wings. The wings are undecorated and terminate in worn breaks. An incomplete copper alloy vessel mount dating to the Roman period (c.AD 43-410).
The mount consists of a sub-triangular body that terminates in a worn break at the base. It is triangular in cross section. The face is slightly convex and is decorated with moulded lines radiating inwards from the outer edge. Atop of the body is a flat suspension loop with an internal diameter of 10.3mm. A complete but worn copper alloy anthropomorphic mount dating to the Roman period (c.AD 43-410).
The mount is in the form of a bust complete with head and shoulders. The head presents a helmeted male with very worn details. The helmet is rounded with a prominent rim and presents two worn stubs at the top of the head which is indicative of a separately attached object mounted on the helmet. The brooch is V-shaped in plan, bowed in profile and irregular in section. The long leg of the V terminates in a transverse break, resulting from the loss of the bottom of the brooch.. The top of the V has remnants of the wings of the brooch, also no longer present. Longitudinal surface decoration is present on both the front and back of the brooch.
The brooch fragment mostly has a dark green patina.

The object is composed of semi-cylindrical wings. A coiled wire spring is retained within the concave back of these wings. The bowhead is hump-like in profile. The front of the head and upper body are decorated with raised longitudinally running ribs, at diagonals, forming a chevron. The body tapers to a point or transverse break, resulting from the loss of the rest of the brooch.

The brooch is T-shaped in plan, bowed in profile and irregular in section. The long leg of the T terminates in a sharp point, probably a transverse break, resulting from the loss of the bottom of the brooch.. The surfaces on the back of the short legs of the T indicate loss of the rest of the brooch and its closure mechanism.
The brooch mostly had a light green patina, turning to brown in places.
