An incomplete Roman copper alloy probable headstud brooch, dating to c. AD 75-200. The short, stepped wings fully encapsulate the axis bar on the reverse, except for a narrow opening just to the left of centre to accomodate the probably hinged pin which is no longer present. The wings narrow down to the sides of the bow, which appears sub-oval in section and terminates in an ancient break before the catchplate and foot. The bezel is overall circular in plan and has raised sides which hold the remains of light green glass which has been cracked and broken, so that any possible inscription is no longer legible. A fragment of a cast copper alloy Roman brooch, Colchester derivative (c. AD 45 - 100). The cylindrical wings enclose the spring mechanism, one wing is damaged exposing the corroded mechanism, the pin is missing, The head is bulbous and appears undecorated, although it is much abraded and has a thick, dusty brown patina. Only the upper part of the bow remains; D-sectioned and tapering, it terminates in an old break. Width 34 mm, length 22 mm, thickness 6 mm and weight 11.4 g.

The object weighs 216.4 g, comparable to the 219 g of the Bessis, 2/3 of a Roman pound. Diameter 31mm and height 39 mm.
