A complete lead or lead alloy steelyard weight, of probable Roman dating (1st to 2nd Century AD) though could be of later dating (2nd Century to 19th Century AD). The weight is conical in shape. Evidence of a small vertical suspension hole is apparent in the centre of the weight, though this is now infilled with soil. The weight measures 30.6mm in height, with a base diameter of 34.3mm; it weighs 171.3g. The weight is a light grey to off-white colour, with an even surface patina. An incomplete copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill type (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 4. j, flat wing ends type). Roman date (AD 140 to 250). Approximately 75% of the brooch is present, consisting of the head, bow, wings, catchplate. The spring, pin and foot are missing, presumed lost in antiquity. An incomplete copper alloy unusual Aesica brooch, of Early Roman dating (AD 43-65). Around 75% of the brooch is present, consisting of the back plate, lozenge boss, upper bow, a wing and an incomplete spring casing. The spring and pin are missing presumed lost in antiquity. The brooch is composite, being made of three separate parts: a back plate, a lozenge boss and the upper bow. The back plate is irregular in shape. A cast lead lion's head (diameter: 35.9mm; thickness: 2.9mm; weight: 67.03g). All of the lion's facial features are clearly visible with round ringlets bearing incised lines to mark the mane around the face, two distinctly prominent curved eyebrows, two large annulet eyes as well as a large protruding nose (which makes the thickness of the artfact as wide as it is) with mouth underneath. Copper alloy Roman Polden Hill brooch of flat wing ends type. Straight curved bow with sprung mechanism and short wings to top. Foot and pin missing. Similar to Hattatt '380' from Petersfield, Hampshire.. Mouldings along whole length of bow, hook for chord and very deep appendage meeting top of catch-plate. Wings plain except for end ribs, bow decorated with rib and fifteen short raised ribs placed laterally at alternate angles. The foot-knob is relatively ornate with a groove and ribs, as well as small projection underneath.
