Object type: CORE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Northumberland
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An irregular flint core of possible Mesolithic date.
A secondary chunk of grey flint with a very small area of original cortex (2%).
There are blade removal scars on both the dorsal and ventral surfaces at right angles to each other. There is heavy/medium patination on all surfaces.
This find spot is close to one that has produced a number of identifiable cores and unfinished or abandoned tools as well as a quantity of debitage. This may indicate a flint tool production area.

Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Northumberland
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An assemblage of 8 worked flint flakes of possible Mesolithic date consisting of:-
one large tertiary flint chunk with areas of variable light to heavy patination; two large sub triangular tertiary flint flakes with a heavy pale patination; a single flake of beige chert with a broken distal point; and four small heavily patinated flakes.
This find spot is close to one that has produced a number of identifiable cores and unfinished or abandoned tools as well as a quantity of debitage. This may indicate a flint tool production area.

A worked flint flake possible unfinished rounded scraper of Mesolithic date.
A tertiary flint flake with heavy patination. The flake is sub square in shape and lenticular in cross section. The ventral surface has a shallow bulb of percussion. On the dorsal surface there is a single central arris. The distal edge has some short, abrupt, scaled retouch but there is also a break where the distal point has been lost. The surface of the break is evenly patinated suggesting it occurred during production and may be why the object appears unfinished. The left mesial edge (proximal end towa…

A worked flint flake of possible Mesolithic date.
A secondary flint flake with a small area of cortex (5%), and light patination. The flake resembles a sub triangular Microlith but has no retouch so is classified as Debitage
This find spot is close to one that has produced a number of identifiable cores and unfinished or abandoned tools as well as a quantity of Debitage. This may indicate a flint tool production area.
