Late/ Post Medieval copper alloy coin weight, 11mm in diameter and 2mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 1.22grams. The object is circular and decorated on one side with crest containing a radiant sun motif. These weights are thought to be English and were used to weigh French Ecu Au Soleil coins (hence the sun). These date from 1475 and in 1525 were the equivalent of four shillings.

It shows an angel holding a staff across its chest, in the act of spearing a dragon. The image is struck slightly off centre so that the border is only visible on the upper half. The reverse is plain which indicates it is a british weight dating to the 15th or 16th century.

A cast copper alloy coin weight dating to the late Medieval period, circa 1464-1470. The weight is circular in plan and rectangular in section with rounded corners. One side of the weight shows a king standing on a ship with a sword and shield. There may originally have been a rose depicted in the bow of the ship but the weight is too worn to be certain. It depicts a worn image of St Michael spearing a dragon under his bowed legs, set in a beaded border. The distinctive angular tail of the dragon, to left of the legs identifies it as a match for an Angel weight shown in Withers p.26 first example.
