An incomplete copper alloy Medieval rotary key of probably medieval date (c. AD 1300 - 1500). The key has a circular openwork bow with a cross. The stem is hollow and joins the bow with a moulded collar. The bit is rectangular in shape now broken. The outer edge of the bit appears has been rolled over to form a tube, part of which has been broken. The length is 75mm and the width 38mm. This key was probably for a casket or chest. A key with a similar bow illustrated in Ward-Perkins (1940 Plate XXIX no. 13) is suggested to be 14th or 15th century.
