Late Post Medieval pierced Ottoman copper alloy 40 para coin. The piercing has a diameter of 2mm and has been machine drilled. This is most likely as a result of being used as a pendant after it had been brought back to the British Isles, probably prior to the 1970s, as a souvenier as the piercing is not correctly oriented to the script on either side. There is a custom in some parts of the Islamic world to attach coins to the apparel of brides, but the weight of of the coin makes it unlikely that was the case in this instance.
