A complete cast lead token probably dating from the post-medieval period. Mass: 4.1g, diameter: 22.0mm, thickness: 2.0mm. The token is unifacial, with a raised cruciform design with three curve sided arms (?petals) and the fourth formed by three straight ribs. There are also raised pellets and sub-triangular features on the front, within a circle of adjoined triangles. The reverse is broadly flat and undecorated, although there is a ridge around the edge. A copper alloy shilling of James II, (Irish) gun money coinage, small size variant, June 1690. Coin reference: Seaby, 1984, 6582G. As discussed in record references KENT-F12E34 and HAMP-483F40, during 1689 and 1690, James II operated a military campaign in Ireland from where he planned to mount an invasion of England, having been deposed by Mary and William of Orange. During this time, copper alloy emergency coinage was issued by James II to pay the troops. The use of secondary metal for the coinage (e.g. from cannons, etc) gave rise to the name "gun money". A complete cast copper alloy coin weight, dating to the Post Medieval period, between AD 1600 - 1800 (15mm x 14.5mm; thickness: 3mm; weight: 5.0g). The coin weight is a slightly uneven square in plan and flat in section. The artefact is irregularly stamped on both sides with four dots. The artefact is in a slightly worn but fair condition.

A cast lead token dating to the 17th century (thickness: 1.8mm; diameter: 26.5mm; weight: 6.83g). The token is only decotated on one surface with four petals, a cross bar running across the diameter and six pellets in between. The reverse is plain. Similar examples are illustrated in Mitchiner & Skinner's paper 'English Tokens, c.1425 to 1672' in The British Numismatic Journal, Volume 54, 1984, pages 140 & 163 (plate 22), ref nos 47, 48 & 49. These examples have been dated between c. 1650-75 and were found from the Thames area, London.
