An Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch knob from a florid cruciform brooch dating to circa AD 525-560/70.  This object is a side knob from a florid cruciform brooch which has been cast seperately and would have been attached to the wing of the brooch with rivets. The end terminal where this side knob would have attached to the wing of the brooch is damaged and the rivets missing.  Adjacent to the damaged edge where the knob would have attached to the rest of the brooch is a rectangular panel decorated with four broadly rectangular annulets with rounded edges. Surrounding the …

Early Medieval (late 5th to 6th centuries) saucer brooch: The copper alloy brooch is circular in plan, although the edges are heavily abraded. The original edge is not visible, but a fragment, in profile, reveals the edge has a small lip which is obliquely angled outwards. The outer face of the brooch is decorated with a central thick annulet with a finer annulet without. Radiating from this fine annulet there are four lozenges in high-relief equi-distant from each other. Between two lozenges there is a rectangular platform, between the others are curvaceous strands forming almost a q…

Description: A gold biconical bead from a necklace, made from a single coiled length of plain unbeaded wire. Both ends of the wire appear original; one is neatly tapered and the other has a blunter end. The coils are soldered together, but there does not appear to be an internal backplate to which the wire is soldered, as there are occasional cracks through which the solid soil infilling can be seen. The bead is slightly flattened lengthways and there is an indentation on one side. Dimensions: It measures 12mm in length and 5mm at its widest, and weighs 1.9g. Discussion: This…

A fragment of thin copper-alloy sheet, now roughly square (42 x 32.5 x 0.7 mm), with three of its four edges broken. The fragment is curved, and if the curve were extended, it would give a maximum diameter of 120 mm. The upper edge is the only original edge, and this is undecorated; below, the strip is decorated with repoussé dots arranged in pairs. There is a horizontal line of paired dots below the rim, and what is probably a lattice design below this. The dots are convex on the exterior and concave on the reverse.
