Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A heavily abraded sherd of hand-made Bronze Age pottery, probably in the Deverel-Rimbury or possibly post Deverel-Rimbury plainware tradition. The fabric is reduced grey with an oxidised reddish exterior and a calcined flint temper. The sherd has a curve to it suggesting it forms part of the side of a beaker or urn. There is no decoration evident.

A fragment of an early to middle Bronze Age copper alloy flanged or palstave axehead, comprising a 19.9mm long section of the butt end. The fragment is wedge shaped in side profile, with the tapering ends of parallel ridges along each side creating a characteristic H shaped cross section at the break, which is patinated and ancient.

A later prehistoric end scraper struck from a secondary nodule fragment of dark grey flint with a light brown cortex retained over 60% of the dorsal surface. The flake has been removed by hard hammering and there is no evidence of a prepared striking platform. The distal end has long semi abrupt parallel retouch defining a working edge which has been largely obscured by battering damage, some of this is clearly post depositional as it has broken the patina.

An end scraper struck from a secondary flake or nodule fragment of dark grey flint with a light brown cortex retained over 40% of the dorsal surface. The distal end has long semi abrupt parallel retouch defining a working edge; there is also possibly secondary working or retouch evident along the left side long edge although this is less clearly defined.

A triangular flint blade of probable Neolithic to Bronze Age date, 43.7mm in length and struck from a patinated grey flint with a small patch of cortex on the distal end. The right side of the long edge towards the distal point has been worked with short abrupt retouch suggesting possible use as a piercer and there is a second patch of retouch around a notch on the left side long edge, suggesting that the tool may have been multi functional. This retouch has clearly broken through the blue-grey patination suggesting later prehistoric re-use of a much earlier struck blade, pos…

An incomplete copper alloy late Bronze Age sword hilt probably dating to the Wilburton or Ewart Park metalworking tradition and dating to 1000 - c.800. BC. The terminal is 'fishtailed', and 31.8mm wide, with flared, pointed ends and a small concave depression in the middle. The hilt plate is 19.6mm wide and presents two raised parallel ribs along its length on both faces, with a broad central groove between. The object has broken across the first rivet hole which has a casting seam around the inside edge. The object is heavily abraded and all breaks are patinated.

A copper alloy casting jet or casting gate with four projecting runners, from a mould for a late Bronze Age socketed axehead. The upper surface is rough and slanted and the margins are uneven. There are four short spikes / runners projecting from the convex underside; these have lenticular to sub rectangular cross section and are arranged in a rectangle. The surface of the object is coated with thick iron deposits from prolonged exposure to groundwater or river floodwater. This find is probably associated with the production of socketed axes of South Wales type, which are la…

A later Bronze Age scraper struck from a nodule fragment of dark brown flint. The distal end is rounded with finely executed long, semi abrupt sub parallel retouch defining a working edge. The dorsal surface retains around 75% cortex and there is little in the way of a striking platform or other preparation suggesting that this is most likely a casually re-used primary waste flake from nodule reduction.

A scraper of later Bronze Age date struck from a large nodule fragment of dark grey flint, which retains a buff coloured cortex across more than 60% of its dorsal surface. There is no striking platform or evidence of preparation, suggesting a casually re-used fragment of a nodule which may have been naturally broken. The  distal end has long, semi abrupt retouch to define a working edge.
