An iron hand bell of probable Early Medieval date, AD 700 - 1100. It has a rounded rectangular opening at the base, and tapers to the top so the two main faces are rectangular and the sides are triangular. It was made by folding a sheet of iron, so there is a seam down the centre of each side. There are two broken projections from the top, which were probably part of a ring handle; one can be seen extending into the inside of the bell too. The clapper is missing. An iron clapper from a bell. The shank is hexagonal in section and terminates with a swollen terminal also of hexagonal section. The suspension loop at the top is formed by a simple loop with the terminal partially coiled back around the shank. The clapper measures 140mm in length. The width of the shank is circa 11mm. The 'ball' measures circa 21mm in diameter. This clapper, which is likely to have come from a large hand-bell, was found in association with several other bell fragments of probable middle Saxon date, for example LIN-E97BD1, LIN-E86CFC, LIN-D8FC8C, and LIN-4B37F8.

Five fragments of an iron hand-bell, or perhaps several iron hand-bells. All pieces appear to be brazed with copper-alloy ((Bourke 1980; 1983). The two fragments represent both shoulders of the crown. The first is rectangular in plan, gently sloped, and with rounded sides. The face of the bell gently flares outwards. Two fragments from the same Early Medieval hand-bell, dating to the period c.AD 600-900. The largest fragment comprises the top of the bell. It is rectangular in plan, flat, and measures 43 x 38mm. The perimeter of the bell curves downwards on all sides to form the body of the bell, which if retaining its present shape would mean that it was sub-rectangular in section.
