The object is triangular in form and hexagonal in cross section, being formed of six triangular panels each terminating with a knop at the corner. The apex is incomplete and has a moulded collar. An iron clapper from a bell. The shank is hexagonal in section and terminates with a swollen terminal also of hexagonal section. The suspension loop at the top is formed by a simple loop with the terminal partially coiled back around the shank. The clapper measures 140mm in length. The width of the shank is circa 11mm. The 'ball' measures circa 21mm in diameter. This clapper, which is likely to have come from a large hand-bell, was found in association with several other bell fragments of probable middle Saxon date, for example LIN-E97BD1, LIN-E86CFC, LIN-D8FC8C, and LIN-4B37F8.

Five fragments of an iron hand-bell, or perhaps several iron hand-bells. All pieces appear to be brazed with copper-alloy ((Bourke 1980; 1983). The two fragments represent both shoulders of the crown. The first is rectangular in plan, gently sloped, and with rounded sides. The face of the bell gently flares outwards. A large lump of iron corrosion is visible beneath the shoulder, and this extends 12mm above it vertically. This probably represents one end of the handle. A fragment of an iron hand-bell (Bourke 1980; 1983). Only part of the crown and a fragment of the face survive. The surviving part is from the top of the bell, comprising the corner of the crown and extending approximately half to two-thirds along the crown. The crown is quadrangular in plan with gently rounded shoulders. a mass of iron corrosion is visible on the underside at the corner, and projecting from this mass is a small shank of circular section, representing the remains of the suspension loop for the clapper. A probable fragment of an iron hand-bell plated with copper-alloy using the 'fusion-plating process' (Bourke 1980; 1983). Only part of the crown and a fragment of one corner survive. The surviving part of the crown appears to be from the corner. It is flat, and appears to have been quadrangular in plan. The surviving face gently flares outwards to the break below.
