Description of Object
A cast silver ingot of the 5th century, discovered during controlled archaeological excavations.
The ingot is sub-cylindrical with rounded ends. It was probably made from melted 4th century siliquae.
Circumstance of Discovery
The silver ingot was recovered from a 5th century deposit on the western rampart mound of the last stone fort at Vindolanda during excavation undertaken as part of the current research programme.
