Medieval silver penny of Edward IV, first or (more likely) second reign dating to 1464 to 1483. Unclear type, unclear initial mark, unclear mint, possibly Durham. The back has two circular blow holes made from the inside (leaving a ridge around the outside) flanking a loop. An early post-medieval gilded silver ball-headed pin dating to the 16th century (c.1500-c.1600), now in two fragments. The head is decorated with six filigree rings, three above a circumferential ridge around the midline and three below. Inside each ring there is a smaller ring with a central pellet. One inner ring and pellet is missing. Gilding remains on the head and neck of the pin. The pin is broken approximately midway down the shaft but the end is still present. CURATORS REPORT Description of find Late Saxon hooked tag with triangular headplate, two rivet holes along the top edge and intact hook. The front of the object is left plain except for a simple, incised line running along each of the long sides of the triangle. A deep notch separates the lower edge of the triangle from the hook. An incomplete cast silver strap-end of early-medieval date. The Thomas Class B, Type 1 (transverse grooved) strap-end measures 28.2mm by 7.5mm by 2.9mm and weighs 1.9g. Its width to length ratio is 1:2.6. It has a proximal split end with a trifid terminal and a central perforation. The interior side of the split end has broken off. A further perforation, which is filled with iron corrosion, is located close to the other end of the split. An incomplete thirteenth or fourteenth century silver gilt finger ring. The bezel is square with rounded corners and measures 11.28mm by 11.45mm by 4.25mm. It is hollow with a square opening in the front, but the gem is missing. The surviving part (about half) of the hoop suggests a former diameter of 19.36mm, not including the bezel. The hoop is 3.62mm wide and 1.4mm thick. It is decorated on the exterior with alternating engraved lozenges and four-petalled flowers. The inside of the band is plain. The gilding is worn. Weight: 2.36g.

A small silver dress pin with bent wire shaft and near-spherical head comprising two hemispheres, each with applied filigree roundels containing bosses, gilded, with knop on top. This is a small example of a typical Tudor 'ball-headed' dress pin, English 16th century, of which examples are regularly reported through the Treasure Act; see for example a pin from Mathern, Monmouthshire, see Treasure Annual Report 1998-9, no. 228.
