Three rim shards from Roman Central Gaulish Samian Ware vessels, probably dating from the mid 1st to mid-3rd century. All were found together and have very similar fabrics. Their smooth, fine fabric is light orange in colour with a ‘satin’ gloss orange-red slip on both the inner and outer surfaces. The fabric has abundant fine mica frequent fine limestone and fairly frequent larger red and brown iron ore inclusions. The shards are too small to determine the original diameters of their vessels. Main phase of production and export to Britain of this ware was between c. AD 120-199.

Two indentations, which appear to be deliberately made on the inner surface, just below the rim. Probably from a large storage jar or similar vessel. The coarse fabric has a light bluish-grey inner and outer surface, with a buff core. It is tempered with sparse mica, frequent, poorly sorted fragments of white and clear quartz, sparse black and less frequent red/brown iron ore, numerous rounded voids. Fractures slightly laminar in places.
