The object comprises a single sheet of copper-alloy which has been rolled into a conical tube, with an overlapping seam. The wide end is open and the narrow end tapers to a rounded terminal. The metal has a mid-green patina and survives in fair condition. The object is 54mm long, 11.9mm wide, 0.6mm thick and weighs 3.3g. The chape consists of a copper alloy sheet, which has been bent into a rectangular sectioned tube with a straight, edge-to-edge seam. The tube tapers in size from a wide to narrow end. An incomplete cast copper alloy probable lace chape of early post-medieval date. The chape is made from a single piece of rectangular sectioned copper alloy rolled to form a tapering tube, open at the wider end and broken at the narrow end. The larger open end is decorated with a double collar of raised circumferential ridges. No attachment holes remain. The metal has a light brownish-green patina and is worn. The chape is 100.2mm long, 13.2mm in diameter at the top, 7.9mm in diameter at the base and weighs 30.4g.

The chape has been formed from a rolled, cylinder of sheet copper alloy, there is no joint in the cylinder. The chape has a wide open end, in which wood still remains. The chape then tapers to the terminal which has a flattened end. There are two punched holes in the sides of the chape.
