Copper alloy brooch fragment. A small cast Colchester derivative brooch fragment, possibly Mackreth type CD RH 1.c. Short semi-circular concave wings retain traces of fixative, and are met by a keeled D-section bow which tapers towards the foot [lost]; the bow is lightly hollowed behind. Abraded. This identification presumes the loss of a rearward facing hook from the crest of the bow. If sustained, it would suggest a connection with a craftsman or other member of the Iceni tribe of East Anglia. Suggested date: Early Roman, 45-61. Length: 23.5mm, Width: 13.2mm, Thickness (crest of bow…

Copper alloy brooch. Cast Colchester derivative brooch, Mackreth type CD RH 2.g. Curved wings open behind bear incised decoration: a billeted ring around the end of each wing, and a diagonal pair of lines with billeting between them on the display side of each wing. A patch of solder lies in the gutter of the wings, more on one side. They are clasped by a bow of rounded section with a central ridge and a groove to either side of it, the three elements diverging towards the crest. The central ridge is indented at the crest of the bow, here taken as a worn relict of a rearward hook, and …

The wings bear a single rib moulding at either end and a diagonal moulding across the display face.
