Fragment of a probable copper alloy Roman plate brooch, inlaid with enamel, dating to the 2nd century AD (100-200AD). The object is oval in plan and slightly convex on the outer face. There is a break at the top and bottom of the object.  This suggests that the object could be a large roundel from the centre of a brooch bow.  It is decorated on the outer face with a series of concentric circular cells, the largest of which contains blue enamel or glass. The inner circles appear to contain degraded enamel or glass, which is a rusty brown colour. The reverse is plain.  …

Copper alloy brooch fragment. Probably the lower bow from a large headstud brooch, Mackreth type Headstud 3.a or 5.a (depending on whether the lost pin was sprung or hinged). The mid to lower bow bears about eight rectangular cells apt to receive enamel, though no trace of colorant appears. The bow tapers gently to a drum-shaped pedestal foot with an annulus in its base. It is also possibly an Early Medieval applied saucer brooch, but it is smaller than most examples. An incomplete copper alloy Roman Trumpet Brooch dating to around AD 75 to AD 175. Less than 50% of the brooch is present, consisting of the head and part of the bow. There is a moulded rib on the head but decoration is heavily worn. The bow has been broken off before the foot. Below the rib is a deep cut that is repeated on the reverse. Very similar to Mackreth 5506 Plate 87 It weighs 2.67g. It is 21.8mm long, 7.9 mm wide at head and 8mm thick at head. An incomplete Iron Age copper alloy La Tène III Nauheim type brooch, c.100 BC- AD 100. It is incomplete insofar as the coil has broken and the pin is now missing. There are two coils in the spring, it loops twice over the front of the brooch, before curling back underneath itself and curls in a single loop.
