Copper alloy brooch fragment. The lower part of a cruciform brooch, from below the mid-bow, which is evidenced by the turned-up end of this fragment. Below this, incised paired lines limit a plain field with a triple moulded collar below it. This in turn gives way to a possibly human mask with brows and a basal pair of slightly expanded nostrils. It is possible that human and equine masks were combined at this terminal. The stub of an integrally cast catch plate remains behind the upper part of the fragment. The back of the object is slightly concave below the catch plate. The su…

An incomplete Early Medieval cast copper alloy stirrup mount, c.AD 1000-1100.
This mount is trapezoidal in plan and decorated with openwork and raised lines. The centre of the mount is shaped as a zoomorphic head, with two holes at the top to represent the ears, a V-shaped forelock between the eyes and a single, circular apeture below these to represent the mouth. Beneath these features are two more holes where rivets would have held this mount to the background material; one of these holes is still filled with the rivet. On either side of the central head are two elongated apetu…

The central design appears to be curvilinear interlace with traces of niello, but it is corroded making it difficult to decipher. The zoomorphic terminal is in the form of a forward facing animal head with moulded features including curved ears (that look like horns), oval eyes, an…
