An unidentified object which is a possible fragment from a lead vessel or pot of uncertain date. The fragment is irregular but broadly triangulat in shape and sub oval in plan. One surface is convex and the other slightly convex. It is slightly thicker at one end, with old and worn breaks on the non "rim" sides. The rim itself is thicker than the rest of the fragment suggesting that it comes from a curved vessel. The outer surface has a coarse surface with a grey coloration with occasional brown and lighter grey patches across the…

A cast copper alloy ring or handle of uncertain date. The object is made of a circular sectioned bar that is bent into a half circle in plan. Both terminals are marked by slightly ragged transverse breaks so that the original circuit is not possible to determine. The object is 57.7mm long, and has a diamater of c.6.8mm. it weighs 24.01 grams. This might have been a handle or dervie from a copper alloy ring.

An incomplete, copper alloy object, possibly casting waste of unknown date (c. 2400 BC - AD 1900). The object is sub-rectangular in plan and sub-rectangular in cross section. On one side, there is a raised, triangular section that is 6.41mm thick, after which the thickness drops to 3.78mm. The object then gradually expands in thickness until it is 6.52mm thick on the other side. In the centre, there are two main oblique, transverse grooves that run across the width of the object, with two sub-triangular indentations between them on the right-hand side. The reverse is largely flat, exc…

Two (2) conjoined sheets of heavily leaded copper-alloy of uncertain date. The fragments are irregularly shaped with worn breaks to all edges. No identifying features are present. The metal has a mid-green patina with shiny grey patches and is in fair condition. The object is 54.1mm long, 41mm wide, 9.6mm thick and weighs 63.8g. Due to a lack of diagnostic features it is not possible to identify these fragments with confidence. It was found in the same area as a number of fragments of a statue of Roman date though is thinner in section that any currently known pieces of this object.…

Unidentified copper alloy object of unknown date.  The artefact comprises a sub-rectangular solid copper-alloy strip with tapering sides and curved ends. Both faces are undecorated. The artefact has a sub-rectangular cross section. It has a brown patina with patches of green copper corrosion and significant surface pitting. The overall shape and form resembles an Early Medieval strap end, but the artefact lacks a bifurcated end or another method of attachment, like rivets or suspension loops.

Incomplete copper alloy object of unknown date.  The artefact is sub-rectangular in plan, with one curved terminal and the other tapers to a point. It has a rectangular cross section, and the artefact curves slightly. Both faces have irregular deep grooves, which may relate to its use or may result from post-depositional damage. The artefact has a greenish/brown patina with significant surface pitting.  This artefact bears close similarity to other Late Bronze Age awls recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database (see for example IOW-E66DFE, …

Unidentified lead artefact of unknown date.  Cast in one piece, the artefact comprises a solid sub-circular flattened sphere with integral casting sprue with a flared end. The artefact has a central linear casting seam, and appears to have been miscast resulting in the misalignment of both hemispheres.  Possibly this artefact is an unfinished attempt at casting a weight, shot or other ingot.  Quantity: 1 Length: 44.52 mm Width: 36.03 mm Thickness: 23.39 mm Weight: 154 g

An unknown object of unknown date and function. The object is a bow of copper alloy that is ovoid in section. At the foot the face appears machined, however the marks could be from casting. The 'face' of the object is trapezoidal and has an irregular shape with a possible zoomorphic shape - possibly a lion. Above this is a small suspension loop.  Length: 50.87 mm Width: 14.82 mm Thickness: 5.27 mm Weight: 21.66 g

A hammered gold sheet of uncertain date. The sheet has a maximum length of 51.4mm, width of 39.3mm, 0.7mm thick and weighs 14.76g. The sheet is lacking any diagnostic features so the use and date cannot be determined. Small percussion marks on the surface indicate the sheet was intentionally flattened before being deposited, discarded, or lost. Due to the uncertainty of the date, the object is not considered Treasure under the Treasure Act 1996.

The object is a narrow bar, with a rounder upper surface and a flattened, slightly wider, reverse surface. The cross-section is D-shaped.There is a fresh break at one end and a rounded terminal at the opposing end. The sides are roughly parallel, but they taper inwards slightly towards the broken terminal. The surface is corroded and shows a green patina, with an area of black patina on the reverse.
