The incomplete head of an Early Medieval gilded copper alloy disc-headed pin, dating to c. AD 570 - 620. Description: The disc is flat and approximately circular, due to more than half of the original circumference missing. A possible incomplete copper alloy strap end of Roman to Early Medieval date. The object has the rough shape and proportions of a Thomas Class A Early Medieval strap end but it is severely corroded. One side, which appears to have most of the original surface remaining, is plain; there is too much loss to the other to know if it was patterned. If it is a strap end, then it is broken at the top as no perforations for attachment survive. Measurements: 31.5mm long, 9.0mm wide, 1.7mm thick and 1.76g in weight.
