An Early Medieval copper-alloy stirrup mount, dating to c.AD 1000 - 1100. The object is sub-triangular in plan. The top of the mount is rounded and has a circular perforation within the centre of the upper projection. The plate is slightly concave to the front of the plate. The upper perforation is flanked by two knops around the edge of the stirrup-strap mount. Between the upper and lower knops the plate expands at a point which is equidistant between the two and also retains two small knops. A slightly convex copper alloy livery button, dating to the end of the 19th century. The front of the button is slightly convex with a white metal coating. It depicts two images: on the left is a Moor's head in profile, wreathed about the temples, and on the right a demi lion rampant, facing the bust, with arms raised holding an axe. An inscribed panel bearing a saltire appears on five sides out of six; those thought to be the top and bottom also bear an off-centre dimple; the sixth side bears an irregular pattern of scratches.
