A near complete cast copper alloy and iron sprung Birdlip type brooch of Late Iron Age to Early Roman date (c. 30-60 AD). The brooch is undoubtedly of Birdlip Type but is not well paralleled in Mackreth (2011) and appears to lack the typical upturned “beak/tongue”. The brooch is in good condition and nearly intact- the only missing element is the iron pin and spring mechanism, attested solely by iron corrosion product left on the lug.

A fragment of copper alloy and enamel zoomorphic vessel mount of probable late Iron Age to early Roman date (c. 50 BC to 100 AD).
The object is zoomorphic, cast in the form of the stylised head of a beast with the lower jaw cut away in order to fit onto a vessel rim. The head is 21.3mm long, 12.1mm thick and 12.3mm wide, with an 8.4mm long snout with a flared, flat tip similar to a pig or boar. The lower 6.8mm of the jaw is cut out to a dept of c. 3.2mm. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester Derivative Polden Hill (CD PH CD PH, 4.l.c Plate 49) type and 2nd century AD date. The brooch is missing much of the wings and spring, foot and catchplate with an overall surviving length of 53.5mm and max width of 24.1mm at the wings. The more intact wing is warped by iron corrosion (with a remaining diameter of 9.5mm) from the iron axis bar. The stump of a small backwards-facing hook or perforated lug is preserved on the back of the head would have held the spring chord.

The object is circular in plan (max external diameter 21.7mm, internal 18.8mm) with a narrow band measuring 1.3mm wide at the narrowest point that gradually widens and thickens towards the top. The top of the ring (or bottom, if an earring) is decorated by a moulding (D-shaped in section) covering half of the ring and reaches its thickest/widest point at the apex where it measures 3.4mm wide by 3.2mm thick. A fragment of cast copper alloy steelyard, dating to the Roman period (c. 43-410 AD). The fragment consists only of a short section of the arm and part of the section containing the fulcra.
The surviving part of the arm is 27mm long, ending in a break. The arm has a parallelogram shaped section and is 10.8mm high by 7.8mm wide. The two facets of each side of the arm are differently sized- the upper, graduated facet is 7.5mm wide and the lower is 6.4mm wide on both sides.
