A flint scraper of unknown date, Mesolithic to Iron Age, 10000 BC - 1 BC, perhaps more likely to be Bronze Age to Iron Age (2200 BC - 1 BC). It is formed on a round, natural flake, probably a pot lid fracture, which is fairly rounded. There is cortex on part of the dorsal face, and the other part is a patinated previous removal scar, probably also from a pot lid fracture. The retouch is on the ventral face along about a quarter of the perimeter. It is short, abrupt and sub-parallel. The scraper is 22.2mm long, 18.1mm wide and 7.1mm thick. 3.1g. The use of …

A flint possible scraper, or perhaps a debitage flake of unknown date, Mesolithic to Iron Age, 10000 BC - 1 BC. It is a secondary flake, with a clear striking platform, cortex over most of the dorsal face, and a crystalline area of crushing or battering damage on the left edge. The ventral face is crazed, probably also from pressure, as it does not have the white or red colour usually associated with burning or heat alteration. The curved right edge could serve as a functional scraping edge, but it appears to be battered rather than deliberately retouched as the removals or f…

A coarse flint end scraper of Neolithic to late prehistoric date c 4000-1 BC. Description: The scraper is produced from a primary flake with leaving the dorsal side mostly covered in cortex. The flake is sub-triangular in shape. The flaking is hard hammer producing pronounced scars and conchoidal fracturing. The bulb of percussion is very prounounced with a fissure across the top left across the conchoidal rippling. Two edges alinged towards the bulb are barely worked with on a few removals. The scraping long edge has short scaled abrupt retouch typical of end scra…

A flint probable scraper of uncertain date, Mesolithic to Iron Age, 10,000 BC - 1 BC. It is formed on a tertiary flake of mottled brown flint with red tinges, which has repatinated on some faces. This may suggest a date at the latter end of the range. There are various removal scars on the edges, some of which may be damage, and an area of short, scaled, semi-abrupt probably intentional retouch on the right edge for use as a scraper. Measurements are; length 34.4mm, width 24.5mm, thickness 11.4mm and weight 10.28g. Large scraper made from an opaque, grey-brown flint with some inclusions. There is a small area of cortex at one end. Both the dorsal and ventral faces show signs of a conchoidal fracture although the scars are weakly defined and may reflect natural fracture. Retouch extends across the upper right hand side of the flint (as shown) and down the right hand side. This is short, scaled and abrupt/semi-abrupt. There is also some limited retouch along the left hand edge. Length 110.8mm, Width 59.1mm, Thickness 29.3mm, Mass 182.36g. The coarseness of the working and the form o…

A flint coarse scraper possibly dating from the late Bronze Age to Iron Age, about 1000 BC - 1 BC. It is formed on a large secondary flake which is roughly trapezoid, with cortex on the right side and retouch on the wide distal end. The flint is fairly poor quality and is patinated to a mottled white and tan. The dorsal face has previous removal scars. The distal end and round the distal corners has short, abrupt scaled retouch forming a rough scraper with a notch nearer the right side. It is 28.4mm long, 48.7mm wide and 10.1mm thick. 17.5g.

Early Bronze Age to early Iron Age secondary grey flint debitage retouched to a side scraper. Three phases of working. Initial phase produced the waste flake. The second phase, and first phase of retouch, incorporated acute, scaled, semi invasive reduction of a ridge on the left side of the dorsal face, and short, semi abrupt, sub parallel retouch on the curved right mesal. This phase of retouch has repatinated. At the distal end of this first phase of retouch, a projection, possibly originally a burin, has been reduced with short, abrupt, parallel retouch. Thi…

Late Bronze Age to Early Iron Age flint side scraper formed on honey brown secondary debitage. Along one mesal there is semi-abrupt, short, sub-parallel retouch from the ventral face that has created an effective scraper. At the pointed end of this retouch, there is a couple of removals that may have been to form or strengthen a gouge. Dates to between c1000 and c400 BC. Length 46mm, width 43mm, thickness 18mm, weight 27.26g.

A flint scraper of unknown date, Mesolithic to Iron Age, 10,000 BC - 1 BC. It is formed on a tertiary flake of opaque grey flint with removal scars on the dorsal face. It is roughly pentagonal in plan. There is scaled, short, abrupt retouch on the distal end and right side, as well as near the striking platform, and short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch on the left edge from the ventral face. Length 22.4mm; width 20.4mm; thickness 4.9mm and weight 2.18g. Though the shape is not typical, it is also possible that this is a gunflint from the 17th or 18th century.

A damaged flint probable scraper, of uncertain date, from the Mesolithic period to the Iron Age, 10,000 BC - 1 BC. It is a tertiary flake of light grey flint, broadly circular, with previous removal scars on the dorsal face and with a notch in the distal end which appears to be damage rather than intentional working. There is untidy short, scaled, and abrupt retouch on both sides where the flint is not damaged. It could have been a circular scraper. It is 16.2mm long, 14.6mm wide and 3.7mm thick. 1.04g.
